Question: Why is it important to have local self-government?

Answer: Local self-government lies at the bottom of administrative level and functions at the grassroots level. It is the government formed by the people of a locality it provides people with self-rule and deals with local problems and the basic needs of the local people.

  1. It constructs and repairs wells, drains, tanks, roads, bridges street lights etc.
  2. It provides health care facilities by setting up health centers and dispensaries.
  3. It ensures the supply of clean drinking water.
  4. It provides educational facilities.
  5. It regularly holds the markets and fairs.
