Answer: The devotion and individual worship of a god or goddess were given much importance under the system of Bhakti.

Answer: Between 200 BCE and 300 CE, Tamil scholars and poets gathered at Madurai is South India to publish their works in Tamil. Such a gathering was called the sangam. The publish works of these scholars are collectively known as Sangam literature and the period  during which they were compiled is called the Sangam Age.

Question: What is the Silk Route?

Answer: The Chinese people were the first to produce silk as early as 5000 BCE and it became quite popular. Chinese traders and travelers sold it in the foreign lands that they Visited for a profit. The land route taken by these Chinese traders and travelers came to be known as the Silk Route. It stretched from China to Rome through Central Asia, Afghanistan and West Asia.

Question: Why were the Kushans able to make a profit from the trade with Central Asia?

Answer: Indian rulers and in particular, the Kushans, came to control the Silk Route. The Romans were quite fond of Chinese silk. The Chinese traded their silk with the Indians for precious stones and metals and the Indians trade the silk with the Roman empire. This control over trade was very beneficial to the Kushans. They were able to collect taxes from traders. They also received gold coins from Roman trade.

Question: What were the main items that the ancient south Indians traded with Roman empire?

Answer: The Romans exported coral, wine, ovile oil and metals like gold, silver and copper and took germstones, silk, cotton, ivory, spices and sandalwood from India.
