Vikram University is located in the historical city of Ujjain. It was established in the year 195. It is a public University and has been recognized by the University Grant Commission. The University was named after the great ruler 'Vikramaditya', who once ruled this region. The main objectives of the University are to merge the traditional and contemporary knowledge and to disseminate the glorious culture, heritage, arts, science and literature of India. The campus of the University contains Computer Centre, Science & Instrumentation Centre, Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Library, University Press, Hostels, Guest House, Health Centers, Bank, and post office etc.

Vikram University was established in Ujjain on the 1st of March, 1957. The foundation stone of Vikram University was laid by the then Home Minister of India Shri Govind Vallabh Pant on Tuesday, the 23rd of October, 1956.
