Sri Ramaswamy Memorial University, is a co-educational private university in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The university has three campuses in Tamil Nadu and one in Modinagar, near Delhi. Previously functioning under Anna University as SRM Engineering College, the institute gained deemed status in 2003-04, and was renamed SRM University. It is consistently ranked among India's top engineering colleges and private universities. Education SRM university is known for its programs in Science (Engineering And Medicine) and Management. The programs are rated among top education programs in the country. Apart from regular faculty, students are given access to foreign faculty from top universities like Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), Columbia University (USA), Cornell University (USA), University of Chicago (USA), University of California Berkeley (USA), University of California LA (USA), Northeastern University (USA), Boston University (USA), University of Miami (USA). Over the next three years, SRM university plans to increase the Indian faculty to international visiting faculty ratio to 60:40 to promote international education, enhance the quality of research and build exposure to different cultures and international trends. Top ranking students are given the opportunity to spend a semester in institutions like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), Carnegie Melon University (USA), University of California - Davis (USA), University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee (USA), SUNY - Buffalo (USA), Northeastern University (USA), Massachusetts Institute of Medicine - Josh Laboratory (USA), University of Western Australia (Australia), Birmingham City University (UK), Kyushu Institute of Technology (Japan), Lille Catholic University (France), Technical University Chemnitz (Germany), Umea University (Sweden). Around 104 students were selected for this Semester Abroad Program (SAP) in 2008. A few were offered scholarships while most of the students were supported by their family, during their time abroad. SRM University has a special arrangement with the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee (USA) to transfer students at the end of the 3rd year for a comprehensive two-year BS + MS program at University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. SRM also has a dual degree program with the University of Warwick (UK) in the area of Plant Biotechnology. A similar program is being worked out in co-operation with Dundee University (UK). The Campus Infrastructure Kattangulathur Campus, Chennai: The university has 2 campus sections-Main Campus & Annexe Campus, covering 38 blocks, spread over 300 acres (1.2 km2). The Indian Bank, The City Union Bank, The SRM Hotel (a Three-Star hotel), which includes swimming pool and bar facilities, and the Royal Inn Restaurant are located in the campus at various locations. The various blocks within SRMIST include, SRM General Hospital, SRM Medical College, SRM Kattankulathur Dental College, SRM Arts & Science College, SRM Polythenic College, Vallaimai Engineering College, Vallaimmai Polythenic College, the PG Block, the Hi-Tech Block, the Main Block, the Mechanical Block, the Mech PG Block, the Electrical Sciences Block, the Computer Science Block, the Biotech block, IT Park (15 floors), an Auditorium(4500 seating capacity), MBA block, MBA library along with a Central Library with an Internet Cafe and a Cafeteria as well. There are also about half a dozen hostels, some of which are the K.R.S Hostel, Medical College Mens and Women's Hostel the UG Hostel, the PG Hostel, Meenakshi Women's Hostel, International Hostel. Work is also going on on the construction of a University Building of 15 floors in which already the Central Library of 4 floors has been opened. Work is being done towards the completion by the end of 2009. A Multipurpose Indoor Stadium with an expenditure of around Rs.17.6 crore has been proposed and the ground work has been started by Shri Abhinav Bindra last year when SRM University offered a Doctorate to him. Ramapuram Campus, Chennai: The dental college currently occupies this quaint and serene campus. Consisting of 5 academic blocks spread over 25 acres (100,000 m2), this charming enclave provides the facilities and infrastructure necessary for medical & health sciences students to pursue their programs. The campus also houses the Faculty of Engineering & Technology & Easwari Engineering College. Vadapalani Campus, Chennai: Being Considered as the "Smallest campus" among all other campuses of SRM and located in the heart of Chennai city, this campus has a fairly good infrastructure as well and it houses the faculty of engineering and technology, faculty of management sciences, faculty of MCA and the Sivaji Ganesan Film Institute. Modinagar Campus, Uttar Pradesh: The campus is spread over many acres of lush green lawn environment located at Modinagar on Delhi-Merrut highway with many topographical features all around. The location of the campus is apt and provides environment for innovation and creativity. Roads within the campus are wide and clean. The academic building accommodates various teaching activities, include personality development and communication skills which derives students ability to emerge them to become a good leader.
