Question: What are natural Fibres?

Answer: The fibres obtained from plants and animals are called natural fibres. For example, cotton from cotton bolls, jute from jute plant, silk from cocoon of silkworm and wool from hair of animals like sheep or goat.

Question: List five animals from which wool is obtained?

Answer: The five animals are – Sheep, Alpaca, Llama, Yak and Angora.

Question: Name three vegetable fibres.

Answer: The three vegetable fibres are – Flax, Hemp and Jute.

Question: What property of silk makes it so attractive?

Answer: The luster in it makes silk so attractive.

Question: What is the basis to decide the quality of wool obtained from sheep?

Answer: The basis are – thickness, length, shine, strength, colour and breed of the sheep.

Question: We wear clothes suited to the weather. Explain the statement.

Answer: In summers we wear lose, light-coloured cotton clothes. Cotton clothes allow air to circulate freely and so the heat of the body escapes. White cotton clothes reflect heat and keep the body cool, they absorb sweat and skin irritation.

In winters, we wear thick, dark-coloured clothes made up of wool, fur or leather. They prevent our body from escaping heat and keeps the body warm.
