Tagore International School Vasant Vihar has completed thirty seven years of its foundation. It's a matter of great pride for the management, administration, teaching faculty and innumerable students of the school who have studied or are studying here. We would like parents and students to know about our success because each one of you has helped the school to write this story of achievement. It has made us ponder over our shortcomings, the areas where we need to strengthen ourselves, not only to rest on our laurels but also to reach newer heights. For, this was the vision with which the school was established. The school has bloomed from a tender shoot to a nourishing tree. Tagore Education Society was founded by Dr. Mrs. Hari Sen & Mr. Jitender Sen in 1964. Dr Mrs. Sen a young visionary, suffused with nationalism, left her lucrative career and zealously took up the cause of imparting value based education. Tagore Education Society established a small school in Lajpat Nagar in the year 1964. Prompted by its success, the society decided to set up another school in Vasant Vihar in a small house just opposite the present school building in 1972. In 1973 the land for the school building was acquired and thus was laid the foundation of the Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar.

Tagore education society now has 3 schools under its aegis:
1. Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar
2. Tagore International School, East of Kailash
3. Tagore International School, Lajpat Nagar

Financial resources were limited but the zeal was abundant and that alone nurtured the school in those difficult years. Gradually the bud started unfolding its petals. Untiring efforts of a small group of teachers began to pay off as in 1982 the Ist batch of X appeared for board exams. After consolidating itself up to secondary level in 1982 the school introduced Commerce stream at plus two level and the school became a senior secondary school affiliated to CBSE. In 1988 Humanities stream was introduced and in 1994 students were offered the option of Science stream. It is heartening to see students doing extremely well in board exams, both in X and XII, and getting admission in the most prestigious colleges of Delhi.

As the school carved a niche, it started attracting more and more students. To augment the building infrastructure the past decade has seen phenomenal construction activities. In 1991 a double storeyed new nursery block was constructed. Spacious rooms, colourful furniture and bright floral draperies created a joyous ambience for the tiny tots. Swings and slides specially designed for the little ones attract them like bees to honey. A tiny swimming pool is the cynosure of the little ones. The primary classes are colour coordinated with matching furniture.

In 1993 the right wing of the second floor was constructed. The following year commenced the construction of the left wing. The year 1996 saw the renovation of all ground floor classrooms. Old flooring was redone with highly polished Kota stones, fiberglass, green boards were fitted in place of conventional black boards.

Reading is the backbone of knowledge. To instill reading habits, better reading facilities were created. For this purpose a new, more spacious library was constructed in 1994. The school is now equipped with two libraries with a large collection of books, journals and magazines. The junior school library has an amphitheatre, which is used by the students for dramatics and public speaking. The senior library is also equipped with a multimedia section. Course books, reference books, career guidance booklets, encyclopedias, classics, fiction, children's books and the latest bestsellers and a plethora of magazines make the library a reader's delight. Every year new books are added to improve the existing stock.

In 1997, the Reception, office and Principal's room were aesthetically renovated. In the next two years the second floor was completed with more classrooms, a beautiful new art and craft room and a splendidly done up most modern dance room with wooden flooring and mirrors on one wall.

Computer education has become an integral part of modern education. The school started computer education in 1991 with just 10 computers. Today the school has 3 computer labs with 23 computers each with SVG 17” flicker free colour monitors. Two K12 labs are exclusively for the use of teachers. The school has taken an ISDN line, which gives Internet facility to all the computers in the school. We have on-line virtual classrooms in Yoga and Calligraphy with Jinyuan Senior High School, Shinghai, China. Theory in the computer lab is taught with the extensive use of overhead projectors and LCD projectors. A new venture that has been added as another dimension to computer education is the Robotics lab.

On the one hand the school was growing structurally and bringing laurels on the academic front, on the other hand, special care was being taken to improve the overall personality of the students through carefully planned co-curricular activities. In order to develop competitive spirit, students were grouped in four houses. Inter house competitions like debates, quizzes, dance, music, play, elocution, declamation, fancy dress etc. keep the children on their active and creative toes and bring out their hidden talents. To inculcate a sense of responsibility and leadership qualities in students for coordinating and organizing various activities, a multi-tiered student cabinet was constituted in 1986 headed by a Head-girl and a Head-boy. Every year a new cabinet is elected which carries on the assigned task throughout the year.

The school has been a trendsetter in inter-school activities. In 1991 an inter school commerce festival, COMFEST-'91, was held. 14 schools of Delhi participated in the commerce related competitions. Other mega inter-school events are – the literary festival -"Words Worth" , computer festival – “Ordinatrix”, paper folding competition -“Origami ” and Annual Leadership Summit -"Lead-On".

Yet another achievement of the school is the association with SPIC-MACAY, an organization which is untiringly trying to create cultural awareness among the youngsters.

Many renowned Indian artists Ustad Bismillah Khan, Radha and Raja Reddy, Shovana Narain, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Uma Sharma, Sonal Mansingh, Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Dr. L. Subramaniam, Pt. Birju Maharaj to name just a few luminaries of the cultural world have given lecture-cum-demonstrations in the school . We can say with great happiness that students are developing a sense of pride for our golden heritage and appreciate the efforts of a lifetime put in by the artists to nurture the legacy.

Unity in diversity is the soul of our motherland, to bring diverse cultures, traditions and religions close to each other the school celebrates all festivals like Dussehra, Deepawali, Christmas, Eid, Lohri etc. with great fan fare. The entire school joins in the festivities and the air reverberates with the sound of mirth, laughter and happiness.

Tele viewing and studies have put the present day children under almost house arrest. Vigorous physical activities and sports, so natural to children, have given way to video games and blitzkrieg from satellites. To fill the lacuna, the school began a fitness regimen from nursery to class V in 1995. Besides regular games periods, aerobics, yoga and tae-kwon-do classes were introduced and are conducted by trained coaches. Many sports teams of the school both junior and senior have been winning many inter-school tournaments. The school has hired the services of professional coaches for basketball, football, cricket, table tennis and badminton to give the teams a winning edge.

Rabindranath Tagore considered nature as the best teacher. It provides best form of entertainment and relaxation. The school believes in this theory implicitly and painstakingly chalks out a schedule of picnics, tours & excursions 2-3 times every year for each class where children enjoy & relax at the same time, learn the lessons of responsibility & discipline. The educational tours like visits to factories & museums, give visual re-enforcement to learning.

The school along with its commitment to academics & co-curricular activities also keeps track of the health of each student. During free annual medical check- up by competent doctors special care is taken to examine eyesight, oral health, weight & general health of the students. Suggestions for follow up actions are given in case of medical problem. Keeping in mind the waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid and jaundice, all the water coolers in the school have been fitted with aqua guard.

To augment resources for development activities, the school for the first time organized a fete in 1994. The wholehearted co-operation of the parents made it a great success. It is held every alternate year.

This is just the beginning. The management has ambitious plans, which will take shape as time unfolds.


School Building: Includes spacious, airy and well-lit classrooms with the latest furniture, aesthetically designed and painted to a colour scheme.

School Office: A fully automated and well equipped office keeps the school administration going smoothly and efficiently.

Computer Labs: The school has 3 computer labs for students each of them well equipped with 23 computers , having 17 inch flicker free colour monitors. To enhance the creativity of our students through movie making we have a special iMac computer with Duo Core Processor. The two K-12 labs each equipped with five latest configuration PCs and internet connectivity, facilitate teachers in the content development and effective lesson preparation.

Robotics Lab: This is a lab equipped with robotics kits by Lego MindStorms and high configuration PCs to facilitate the robo building and working models by the students.

Multimedia Centre: Two air-conditioned rooms, well equipped with LCD Projector, OHP, Computers and a multimedia kit functions as the multimedia-centre. An assortment of good education software is available for the use which:
• facilitates Computer Aided learning for classes I to XII.
• reinforces classroom teaching with the use of LCD Projector and Multimedia kit.
• makes learning fun.

E-learning: To enhance classroom teaching LCD projectors are installed in some classes. Students are taught lessons using the projectors, laptops and interactive softwares.

Virtual Classrooms have been established through videoconferencing with Jinyuan High School in Shinghai,China.

Science Laboratories: Newly renovated and beautifully designed Physics, Chemistry and Biology Labs which are well equipped for practical work, activity based learning and also facilitate project work for all students.

Math lab: Well equipped for all kinds of hands-on activities for students , it includes manipulatives and games to facilitate better learning of concepts. The SMART BOARD in the lab provides interactive online and offline learning.

Social Science lab: The spacious lab is highly suitable for activity based teaching. Well designed and equipped with tools like JIL, SMART BOARD and internet facility, the lab suits the requirements of all grades.

EVS lab: This lab facilitates the practical knowledge of science, catering to the primary and the middle school. Along with the apparatus, charts , models and specimens that help to enhance power of observation and encourage natural curiosity, the lab also has interactive audio-visual tools like E-beam and JIL.

Medical Room: A pleasing and comfortable medical room to take care of emergencies. A qualified nurse is available full time to provide first aid. The school doctor visits regularly for medical checkup of all students and to look after the referred cases.

School Library: The school has two large libraries, junior and senior, with an excellent collection of books, journals and magazines.

School Transport System: The school has a fleet of buses manned by experienced drivers and conductors . The smooth plying of the buses is the responsibility of the bus supervisor . All students are expected to follow bus rules. Parents may,on rotation, supervise the bus routes and submit their reports to the Principal.
Physical Education Room: The Physical education room stocks an assortment of equipment required for various games. Special coaches for Football, Basketball, Athletics, Volleyball, Handball and Cricket are available.

Nursery and Kindergarten: The most impressionable age in a child's life is the pre-primary age. At this age, the development of the child is rapid and they absorb almost all that is taught to them. The onus therefore is on the adults to impart knowledge that would help the child develop good habits , proper attitudes and an inquisitive mind. With these objectives in mind, Nursery School offers an innovative approach to learning that helps the young child develop knowledge, skills and confidence, thus giving them a firm foundation.

Activity Rooms: There are rooms for Art and Craft , Vocal Music , Dance, Instrumental Music, Clay modeling and Meal Planning. The school also offers activities such as Taekwondo, Yoga, Aerobics, Electronics, Handicrafts, Needle Work, Gardening etc.
